Coláiste Ghobnait is a co-educational school on Inis Oírr which operates under the patronage of Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board.
Coláiste Ghobnait offers the Junior Cycle, Leaving Certificate and the Transition Year programme.
Coláiste Ghobnait is a small post-primary school with classes taught through the medium of Irish. Coláiste Ghobnait was founded in 1985. It is located in Inis Oírr, the smallest of the Aran Islands. Coláiste Ghobnait provides education for students of Inis Oírr and any other students who wish to receive their education through the medium of Irish. The Irish language is a valuable resource for the entire community of Coláiste Ghobnait and the community of Inis Oírr.
Coláiste Ghobnait has a high academic standard and there is a positive, friendly atmosphere and Wellbeing in the school. Coláiste Ghobnait caters for all learning, language and aspects of student development. We are a small school with a wide range of subjects available.
Schools are at the heart of every community, but particularly on the Island. Without the schools, the islands would be at risk of depopulation. A major challenge for a Gaeltacht school is to foster an environment where the language and educational needs of pupils in that system can be met, in parallel.
It is essential that Coláiste Ghobnait Management, the Board of Management, Parents and Students ensure that the students of the school achieve their learning experiences in all subjects through the medium of Irish. It is vital that Coláiste Ghobnait should be able to fulfill its professional duties effectively in order to ensure a worthwhile learning and development experience for the students in their care.
