General Information

The Parents Committee is a structure through which the parents of the school can work together for the benefit of the pupils education. All parents/guardians are members of the Parents Committee. The Committee cooperates with the Principal, the school staff and the Board of Management, to ensure an effective link between home and school. The committee meets every term. The members of the committee function and liaise with the Principal throughout the year. The annual general meeting of the committee takes place in September each year.

 Aims

The Parents Committee in Coláiste Ghobnait has four important aims.

  • A positive means of communication between parents/guardians, school management, the teaching staff, the Student Council and the Board of Management, for the benefit of the continuing education and development of pupils.
  • Communicating parents views within the school and to outside groups, e.g. the National Parents Council. The Parents Committee is registered with the Council.
  • Inform parents of developments in the school and of educational changes that may affect students.
  • Organise events and provide fundraising support for the school during the school year, e.g. Inis Oírr Wild Atlantic Island RunThe Parents Committee would like to thank all the parents/guardians and all those who donate and take part in the challenges organised by the school each year, amongst them this year’s Inis Oírr Wild Atlantic Island Run.

Parents/guardians have an input into the formulation of school policies, which ensures that parents views are reflected in the policies. We value the support of parents/guardians and welcome their input in the school’s curricular and extra-curricular activities. Parental involvement is very important in promoting the school’s values at school, at home and in life.
